Fashion blog
In general, this is not a spoiler free blog. I tag everything obsessively and text usually goes under a cut for a while, but be warned! I use trigger warnings, but for an idea of what this blog contains, check the "warnings" page at the top. Some triggers are sometimes warned for only in tags (to be blocked)- if this is a problem, please proceed at your own risk. If you have a specific trigger that you want to be able to block I can absolutely add a specific tag- please ask!
The tag I use for flashing images is GIFs, if you need to block them. .
Reblogging again just to say something.. I keep wondering why everyone is getting offended with who is the main in the Justice League. These are the most well-known characters, so it makes a lot of sense to have it that way. There also is the racial and gender diversity, so I don’t see much, or anything, to complain about. And the more populated company with LGBT is Marvel, I believe, so DC wouldn’t be putting an off-side character on the front of the JL just because they are LGBT. These are the characters people know, so therefore they are the characters they show. And it’s not all white. But it is almost all men. And, unless there is something we don’t know, there aren’t any LGBT members.
It be fair, it is “not all white” at the same proportion that it is “not all men.” This is not good, but sadly, also not surprising.
Also, Hal’s machine gun phallus disturbs me on many, many levels.
Because that’s the problem. When all your most popular characters are straight, when the vast majority are white, when a helluva a lot of them are men- that says something about your product. That you promote and prioritise those characters above other ones. ‘That’s how it is’ simply shows that how it is is wrong and should change. Like yes, everyone know the well known characters aren’t LGBT etc. That’s… what we’re complaining about! And if you don’t see much to complain about because one person isn’t white, one person is female… well, that’s your concern. But really, when a series can have 5/6ths of its cast as male when half the population is female and consider that ‘diverse’, and when the same ratio applies to non-white characters when the USA is a pretty diverse country, well…
DC needs to work on fixing that. It’s a flaw. And using a well known book that has shown that it can sell without A-Listers (the Justice League International era did pretty damn well with characters like Booster Gold for example) on its own brand is a good way to start. Not taking that is criminal IMO; DC could do better than this.
tl;dr: ‘Well it’s because all the popular characters are straight white men!’ is not an excuse, it is the description of a problem. DC has an obligation to correct that problem. They did not take a good opportunity to do so, and people are criticising that.
